Nickels 2026 Review: The Dead Don't Always Stay Buried

The Past Has Terrible Timing Thirty years. One motorcycle crash. And a man who never quite escaped the first tragedy. Nickels takes a familiar supernatural premise and digs into something far more uncomfortable: what happens when grief becomes the only explanation a person can accept? Directed by Spencer King and written by Tim Tuchrello, the drama follows Tom Monroe, a successful entrepreneur haunted by his brother's death. When his neighbor's son suffers a motorcycle accident, Tom begins to suspect his brother's spirit has returned. I like the ugliness of that uncertainty. But it’s Teyana Taylor as Perfidia Beverly Hills who truly left me stunned—unforgettable, fierce, unflinching, and terrifyingly committed. That jaw-dropping scene where she fires a machine gun while pregnant is shocking not just for its intensity, but for what it represents: survival, defiance, and the extremes people reach when pushed to the edge. The film is loud, provocative, and morally messy. It’s not just an action thriller—it feels more like an identity crisis set to gunfire. The characters and even the director present layered puzzles that viewers can interpret as brilliant or flawed depending ...
